The new Audi electric crossover, spy photos of which we published only the day before, was almost completely declassified in China. The local Ministry of Industry and Informatization revealed the name, design and many characteristics of the model prior to its official premiere as part of standard certification events.
So, the new Audi Q5 e-tron is called. At the same time, this car has nothing to do with the fuel Q5, an updated version of which we tested this spring. We are talking about the commercial embodiment of the Audi concept Shanghai show car, which in technical terms is almost completely copied from the Volkswagen ID.6 three-row SUV – another fresh product of the Volkswagen Group, addressed primarily to the Middle Kingdom.
ID.6 and Q5 e-tron have identical length (4876 mm) and distance between axles (2965 mm). Chinese officials have shown different paint options and wheel designs on their website. The salon has not yet been declassified, but our spies have already looked into it: in general, the interior design of the Q5 e-tron will be similar to the soplatform Q4 e-tron.
The power plants Audi will completely borrow from Volkswagen: there will be rear-wheel drive versions of 180 and 204 hp. and all-wheel drive with 306 hp. The latter will receive the designation Q5 50 e-tron quattro. The official debut may take place as early as this month, for example, at the Chengdu Auto Show, which kicks off on August 27.
By the way, it was previously assumed that the name Q5 e-tron will be assigned to a completely different, more advanced and luxurious model, which Audi is developing together with Porsche on a separate PPE platform. Later, the company announced that an analogue of the future battery-powered Makan will enter the market with the Q6 e-tron index.
