Dodge Durango can get a hybrid system eTorque

The debut of the electrified SUV could take place in 2020.

Literally at the beginning of this month, United Auto Workers and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles had circulated some information regarding the innovations they plan to demonstrate. Among the new models is the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500 TRX. There is also mentioned the updated Dodge Durango.

According to information provided by the foreign press, the hybrid Durango dealers of the brand will receive in 2020. Certainly, this power plant will be based or 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 or 5.7-liter HEMI V8, as both motors are now electrified variations eTorque in Ram 1500.

Adaptation of both powertrains for the Durango should be a relatively simple task for specialists of the FCA, because the Durango has the RWD platform, the same as the Ram 1500 that already has a mild hybrid model.

Hybrid powertrain uses eTorque generator unit (MGU), which replaces the generator, which is connected with the crankshaft large drive belt. Also there is a 48-volt battery “the size of a suitcase” so that the system has lower CO2 emissions, better performance and improved EPA acceleration from standing.
