Egyptian plant: one of the oldest enterprises will be engaged in the Assembly of electric vehicles

On the private company El Nasr will begin to assemble the electric model Dongfeng

The state Egyptian company El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Company and Chinese automaker Dongfeng Motor has signed an agreement to assemble electric vehicles in Egypt, says Al Monitor. New production capacity will be 25 thousand cars per year.

Plant Nasr was opened on the orders of then-President Gamal Abdel Nasser in 1960. He became the first enterprise in the Arab world. Interestingly, the company started with the production of the car “Ramses”, which like “Zaporozhets” ZAZ 968 was copied from the German small car NSU Prinz.

Then, Nasr has produced various licensed versions of Fiat cars, as well as Polish FSO and the Yugoslav Zastava, while in 2009, the company was not completely stopped. So the deal with Dongfeng will be a resurrection of the old plant.

What the vehicles will be produced in Egypt is not specified. So far, Dongfeng has produced many electric cars in partnership with Nissan and Renault, and also participated in the creation of the electrical architecture of the e-CMP together with Peugeot, but about their own developments of the company in this segment, almost nothing was heard. So it is possible that the Chinese will offer to the Egyptians reinterpreted copies of electric vehicles of its Japanese and French partners.
