Electric brand NIO begins to conquer Europe


Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer NIO is gradually approaching expansion into Europe. It is ready for its first launch in Norway, where they love electric cars.

The company announced on Twitter that it will hold a press conference in Oslo on May 6 to discuss its presence in the local market. NIO already has some presence in Europe with a global design center in Munich and its cutting-edge R&D engineering center in Oxford.

While the company has been touting European entry for a couple of years now, another electric car startup, Xpeng, jumped at it and began marketing its cars in the European Union at the end of that year.

NIO’s first European showroom will be located in Oslo. Former head of Jaguar Land Rover Norway, Marius Heiler, will serve as executive director of NIO Norway. Various job listings on LinkedIn also indicate that the group is looking for experts to drive sales across Europe.

At the beginning of the month, NIO produced its 100,000th car, in 9 months it built its 50,000th car and exactly 1046 days after the start of the assembly process of the flagship ES8 electrocross.

The ES8 is slightly larger than the Audi E-Tron, with 643bhp. and 840 Nm and can be equipped with a 100 kWh battery, providing a range of up to 580 km.

Other models currently in production by NIO include the ES6 5-seater electric SUV and the EC6 electric coupe SUV. It remains unclear which of these models will be the first to launch in Europe.
