This week, Lexus has already shown images of two electric crossovers, the RZ and a larger Electrified SUV, and now the company has shared teasers of a compact battery-powered sports sedan that could replace the IS model in the future. There are no technical details about the new product, but you can already get an idea about the exterior design: the four-door received an unusual “humped” hood and a small spoiler at the stern.
The electric car does not yet have its own index, so the company simply calls it the Lexus Electrified Sedan. Most likely, it will be built on the same e-TNGA platform that formed the basis of the RZ 450e (a premium analogue of the Toyota bZ4X). This architecture features a McPherson front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension. The features of the sedan include complex optics and large air intakes.
In 2021, Lexus sold 706,000 new vehicles worldwide, 260,000 of which were hybrids or electric vehicles, while the brand has only one fully electric model in its arsenal so far – this is the UX 300e.
Already this decade, the automaker intends to release at least one electric car in each class: in addition to crossovers and a sedan, station wagons and a convertible are expected, details of which are not yet available.
Lexus plans to phase out conventional combustion vehicles by 2035.
