Mitsubishi has published two teasers of its future electric car, the Airtrek crossover. It is already known that the car will be developed in China specifically for the local market in conjunction with the Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC). The concept of the future novelty will be presented in the near future at the Shanghai Motor Show, and the production version will be on sale by the end of this year.
Airtrek is a compact crossover that will occupy a niche between Mitsubishi Outlander and Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross in size. Judging by the images, one should not expect a design breakthrough from the novelty: it continues the current Dynamic Shield style with an X-shaped front end and tapered optics, which the brand used back in 2017 at the e-Evolution show car.
The Japanese company does not disclose many details about the new model, but promises to release the serial version on the market before the end of this year. The Airtrek will only be sold in China, where it will be Mitsubishi’s fourth crossover. Production will be established in a joint venture with the GAC.
The next “green” novelty will also not become an independent development: Mitsubishi will create it together with its alliance partner Nissan. According to information obtained by the Japanese media, the novelty will belong to the segment of kei-cars and will differ in a power reserve of no more than 200 kilometers. The compact electric car will cost less than two million yen ($ 18,500) and is expected to premiere in 2022.
