Toyota has announced the signing of an agreement with the Chinese company Amperex Technology on the development of batteries for electric vehicles. The Japanese side stated that the agreement “will ensure a stable supply of components”, will allow to develop new technologies and improve product quality.
The message about the deal came amid promises by Toyota to increase the sales of clean cars. In addition to CATL, the Japanese automaker is cooperating in this field with another Chinese company – BYD and plans to build a joint plant to produce batteries with Panasonic.
Earlier this year, Toyota introduced two electric models for the Chinese market – the C-HR and IZOA. Interestingly, the company develops electric cars in China. So, the government of Indonesia announced that the Japanese intend to invest two million dollars in the development of electric vehicles in the country.
