Eternal classics: Opel unveils revived Manta coupe

The Opel brand announced the debut of an unusual restomod called Manta GSe ElektroMOD.

The release of the Manta GSe ElektroMOD restomod is not only a way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary Opel model, but also an opportunity to announce some innovations in the range of the brand. At the same time, the released new product will remain one of a kind, despite a number of exotic solutions that are present at the Manta GSe ElektroMOD.

The coupe, by and large, retained the design of the historic Opel Manta from the 1970s, but the exterior of the car was diluted with ultra-modern accents. For example, the “grille” is a single digital panel that is capable of displaying text messages: this element has been named Pixel Vizor. Head optics were also built into it. The taillights are also made on the basis of LEDs with three-dimensional graphics. The restomod was shod with unusual 17-inch wheels that were specially developed for this project.

Inside the Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD coupe, a massive electronic panel “surrounds” the driver has appeared: it includes 12-inch “instruments” and a 10-inch media system screen. The interior of the car was finished in leather and Alcantara in a combination of gray, black and yellow shades, and also added two sports “buckets” and a 3-spoke Petri steering without a single button.

The original 1.6-liter engine has given way to an electric motor that produces 147 hp. and 225 Nm of maximum torque. It is equipped with a 31-kilowatt battery that allows you to travel up to 200 km without recharging. The reborn Manta features a regenerative braking system and an on-board charger.

It is noted that the Manta GSe ElektroMOD restomod retained the 4-speed manual transmission. Thus, it can be driven in the same way as the original Opel Manta model. In this case, the gearbox can also be used in automatic mode: for this you just need to turn on the fourth gear. Together with the restomod, a new Opel sub-brand debuted: the company intends to use the GSe abbreviation in the future for names of electric and electrified cars with a sporty character.
