Novelty, it seems, is risking to blow up the Latin American market of crossovers, and a year later make a mess in Europe.
Strictly speaking, about “Nivose” much was known before today’s premiere. The main mysteries remain, by and large, the final appearance and the principles of positioning – what is the level of the cross-coupe is relatively compact VW T-Cross. The Brazilian subsidiary of the group answered all questions and, as it turned out, had a surprise.
Volkswagen Nivus, judging by the published photos and shown in the online presentation turned out very well: the SUV has retained all the signature stylistic signs, but got an unusual for the family of the body issuing the automobile origin. The novelty is built on the platform MQB-A0, a simplified version of our modular “trolley” – it is, in particular, is based local VW Polo.
And the silhouette of the body of “Nivus” is associated with “Polo”, rather than with a more angular T-Cross. Apparently, Volkswagen is betting on buyers who prefer cars, by and large, cars, but with a higher rise and a slightly increased ground clearance. “Vnedorozhnoi” VW Nivus highlighted only a slight body kit of unpainted plastic on the perimeter of the body and pseudochromosome plates.
The wheelbase of the cross-coupe is identical to this parameter VW Polo – 2 566 mm, while between the axes of T-Cross – 2 mm. 651 However, the “Nivus” was even bigger “T-cross” due to the elongated rear overhang 856 mm 732 mm. against It, and generally longer (4 to 4, 266 mm 199 mm), and has a more spacious trunk, though it turned out slightly lower due to the dynamic slope of the rear pillars.
However, Nivus does not receive a relatively large scale engines. No alternative power unit has appointed a liter “turbotron” is paired with a 6-speed automatic, developing 130 HP, while the T-Cross there is a 150-strong unit volume of 1.4 liters will Not have new and full drive. But the cross-coupe was much cheaper model in the lineup.
The price was not officially announced even Brazil (they will be announced closer to start of sales), but the local dealers of Volkswagen have already told our colleagues some information. The basic cost of Nivus in the local market will account for 79 990 reais ($14 800), which is 8 less than 800 reais ($1600) than asking for the most affordable T-Cross with the same engine. The top version is estimated at 97 990 reais ($18 100), and it is also cheaper than comparable “T-cross”.
Meanwhile, procurement of new items is not going to be “drum”. Basic Nivus promised to equip, for example, rear led lights, air conditioning, rear Parktronic, cruise control, media centre, multifunction steering wheel, six airbags, a stability system and so on. More expensive versions will be able to boast a rear camera, climate control, ambient lighting and leather trim in the cabin, tidy digital, sensors rain and light, and the like.
In the list of available options, a special place is occupied adaptive cruise control that was pioneered by Volkswagen in this class, and the latest multimedia system VW Play. The state is not entitled to cross-coupe in any trim, but for a fee it will be installed at Nivus in any performance.
At the end of June the novelty will enter the market of Brazil, and by the end of the year, Volkswagen is going to start selling Nivus in Argentina. In 2021-m the company plans to introduce a cross-coupe and in European countries, to collect “Nivus” which will be in Spain.
