Farewell, Passat: the popular sedan was discontinued

Volkswagen Passat sedan is no longer available for order for production, since the assembly of such cars stopped shortly before Christmas. This was reported by the British edition of Autocar, citing its own source at Volkswagen.

Volkswagen has offered a choice between a sedan and a Passat station wagon since its introduction in 1973. However, as noted by British journalists, by the end of 2021, the version with a larger trunk was selling twice as much as the four-door. In addition, in the model range of the German brand there is an Arteon liftback, which in its concept is close to the Passat sedan and is equipped with the same power units. Thus, the manufacturer eliminated a modification that was not the most demanded, while retaining its presence in the segment.

We also advise you to watch a test drive of the Volkswagen Arteon 2021 from the FineAuto team:

The exact timing of the termination of production of the Volkswagen Passat B8 station wagon is still unknown. According to preliminary information, the ninth generation will debut in 2023 and will be presented only as a station wagon with gasoline and diesel engines. The Passat B9 will be produced in Slovakia, on the same line with the Skoda Superb of the next iteration and next to the Touareg crossover. The assembly line in Emden, Germany, traditional for the European Passat, will be occupied by the VW ID.4 electric car, as well as serial versions of the ID concept. Vizzion and ID. Space Vizzion.

In the same 2023, the premiere of the serial version of the electric Volkswagen Aero B station wagon on the MEB platform should take place. It is possible that in the future this model will also replace the Passat with internal combustion engines.

By the way, the American version of the Volkswagen Passat was discontinued in the summer of 2021. So now the three-box model is only produced in China for the domestic market.
