Ferrari writes “Icon”

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna has confirmed that the new Icona limited-edition hypercar will premiere this month, although it was previously scheduled to launch in early 2022. The reason for the adjustment of plans, according to the CFO of the Italian brand, was the strong need of customers, which had to be satisfied. The name of the model, its design and price are still a mystery, although only a few days remain until the debut.

As reported by Automotive News Europe, the head of Ferrari Benedetto Vigna, during a report to investors for the third quarter of this year, said that it was decided to postpone the premiere of the new Icona line hypercar from the beginning of 2022 to November 2021. “This move was prompted by a strong customer demand for the new Icon, which we had to meet,” said the brand’s CFO Antonio Picca Piccon. The latest Icona models, the Monza SP1 and Monza SP2, debuted back in 2018 as a pair of roadsters based on the 812 Superfast mid-engined supercar.

The car is known to be based on the LaFerrari Aperta super hybrid, but its exterior is inspired by the classic 1960s 330 P4 racing model. The exclusive new model will receive the same naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine with 830 horsepower as the 812 Competizione. It is expected that the new “Icon” will be released in even fewer numbers than a couple of Monza models, which promised to collect only 500 copies. Accordingly, it will be much more expensive – according to rumors, “Ikona” will exceed $ 2.5 million.
