The fact that the era of cars with internal combustion engines is coming to an end is evidenced by the results of voting in the framework of the Car of the Year-2022 competition. An expert jury selected the finalists for the prestigious international award: seven models were shortlisted, six of which are electric vehicles, and only one is on the market with traditional fossil fuel motors. Four of the seven finalists are European models, two are Korean and one is American.
According to the list on the competition website, Cupra Born, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5, KIA EV6, Peugeot 308, Renault Megane E-Tech and Skoda Enyaq iV reached the final. The only non-electric car among them is the Peugeot 308, which changed its generation in March this year and is sold with hybrid power plants, including a rechargeable one.
As for the KIA EV6 and the soplatform Hyundai Ioniq 5, the sporty Ford Mustang Mach-E, as well as the Skoda Enyaq iV, Cupra Born and Renault Megane E-Tech, these are all full-fledged electric cars.
The best of the best will be determined by an expert jury of 60 automotive journalists. The winner will be announced on February 28, 2022.
Last year, the winner was the compact Toyota Yaris hatchback with 266 points. It overtook the Fiat 500 (240 points) and the Cupra Formentor (239 points).
