The fact that Suzuki is working on a new version of the Suzuki Jimny SUV is not a big secret. The extended wheelbase car was caught on public roads many times by photo spies, but the design of those prototypes was hidden by camouflage film. However, it has now become known what the five-door Jimny will look like without disguise. The car was declassified thanks to a picture taken in Google Maps.
Judging by the photo that was found in the Google Street View service, the test 5-door Jimny hit the camera lens while driving past one of the Cosmo gas stations. The car was painted in Lime Green Shade, which is now available for the regular three-door model.
The front part of the SUV body partially repeats its short-wheelbase brother, but stands out with other bumpers and a radiator grill. Most likely, the changes in its design are dictated by the upcoming update of the 3-door model, which is scheduled for the first half of 2022.
Earlier it became known that the five-door Suzuki Jimny will be designed based on the Jimny Sierra. The length of the car’s wheelbase will receive an increase of 300 mm (up to 2550 mm), which will significantly increase the space inside the car. The SUV will get LED lighting, a rear view camera and parking sensors, and a 7-inch multimedia system display supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will appear in the cabin.
As an engine, the lengthened Jimny should receive a 1.5-liter K15B gasoline engine, aggregated by a mild hybrid system. The total power of the model will be 103 horsepower and 130 Nm, and transmission options will include a 5-speed “mechanics” or 4-band “automatic”. The global version is likely to receive a mild hybrid system based on a 1.4-liter petrol turbo engine under the hood.
