An old Toyota pickup that has been in the garage for 28 years will be sold at Mecum in January. We are talking about an authentic Toyota Hilux with 94 miles (151 kilometers) range and an unusual history. The owner from New Hampshire bought the car new in 1993, but until 2021 the car was not used for some reason. The truck turned out to be a real “time capsule”, and over the past six months they have been trying to make money on its sale for the second time.
For nearly three decades, tires, oil filter, fuel pump, fuel tank and battery have fallen into disrepair. These components were replaced during maintenance, but everything else in the Japanese truck is original. As you can see from the photographs, the dark green paint has not faded and the chrome bumpers have not faded.
Under the hood of the Toyota Hilux is a naturally aspirated 114-horsepower four-cylinder 2.4-liter gasoline engine. The gearbox is a 5-speed “mechanics”, there is a four-wheel drive and a reduction gear. The package bundle is not rich: the interior is trimmed with gray fabric and practical plastic, there is no radio tape recorder or power windows.
A utilitarian 28-year-old pickup should not be cheap – Japanese journalists found out that in September the same car with 84 miles (135 kilometers) mileage changed its owner for $ 45,100, and there is no reason to give a frame truck cheaper than this amount. Comparably in the USA there is a completely new Toyota Tundra in a rich configuration.
