Ford has released the first video teaser for the electric version of its best-selling F-150, and has revealed some details about the new product. The all-green pickup will be named the F-150 Lighting and will debut on May 19 with sales starting mid-2022.

With the novelty, Ford will revive the Lightning name, which was first used to refer to the “hot” modifications of the F-Series in 1993. The SVT Lightning of the first generation received a 240-horsepower V8 5.8, but in the second it exchanged it for a compressor V8 5.4 with a 385 horsepower, hitting the Guinness Book of Records as the fastest pickup in the world (0-97 km / h in 5.2 seconds) … Now the Lightning name will take on a new meaning and will point to the electric powertrain, which Ford has promised to make the most powerful in the history of the line.

According to the head of Ford, Jim Fairley, the electric F-150 will be more dynamic than the record-breaking fuel pickup, and will be constantly improved through software updates “over the air”. The all-wheel drive electric pickup will be driven by a twin-engine power plant, and the expected range will be at least 483 kilometers. In addition, its batteries can power an entire house in the event of a power outage, just like the GMC Hummer EV.

The electric F-150 will probably be similar in size and proportion to gasoline pickups. Its front end is crowned with a diode strip stretching across the top of the radiator grille with a three-dimensional pattern, and the cargo platform is decorated with the Lightning lettering with the letter T, stylized as a lightning bolt. The cabin is expected to be full of technological innovations and large displays – they will probably be no less than the Ford F-150 Raptor, which debuted with two 12-inch screens of “tidy” and infotainment system.

The F-150 Lightning electric pickup will premiere on May 19. Acceptance of orders will open in the spring of 2022. Production will begin at the new Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan.
