The compact Ford Maverick pickup, which debuted in early June, will not make it to the European market. According to Automotive News with reference to a Ford spokesman, the reason for this decision was the low demand for such cars among Europeans. Previously, sales of Renault Alaskan in Europe stopped for the same reason, and Nissan announced its decision to exclude the Navara pickup from the European model line. Mercedes-Benz has completely abandoned the production of the X-Class.
Although the Maverick will not appear in Europe, Ford remains one of the few car companies that sells pickups in the local market. We are talking about the Ranger model – it not only remains the segment leader in this region, but also demonstrates sales growth: in the first quarter of 2021, Europeans purchased 12 thousand copies of the Ranger, which is 44 percent more than in the same period in 2020.
As for the Maverick, it has become the smallest pickup in the Ford lineup and the first segment presenter that is already available in the base with a hybrid powertrain. The Maverick is powered by a 2.5 Atkinson Economy Cycle engine mated to a PowerSplit CVT transmission. The hybrid plant develops 194 horsepower, and the fuel consumption of the pickup is 5.88 liters per 100 kilometers.
In the US, the Ford Maverick will go on sale in the fall of 2021 and will cost from $ 19,995. Its main competitor in the local market will be the Hyundai Santa Cruz.
