Ford patented opening “grille”

Such technical solution can be applied to electric pickup truck based on the F-150.

In the database of the Bureau of patents and trademarks United States appeared the application for the original invention Ford: extendable cargo compartment in the front region of the machine, hidden away behind false radiator grille. Clearly, such a solution is applicable only for cars that do not have an internal combustion engine, which is usually located under the hood. That is, for electric cars.

Judging by the images to get to the engine compartment, the motorist will have to open the hood. It will be enough to discard the “grille”, which hides a drawer having a backlight.

Ford previously confirmed that it is working to develop environmentally friendly models. First, it was noted that it will be an electric truck, created on the basis of the F-150. It is expected that new model will hit the market in three versions: with one motor and monodrive with all-wheel drive and two motors, one for each axis, four power units – one at each wheel.

Under the assumptions, the debut of the electric pickup will take place towards the end of 2020, and serial production will start no earlier than 2021-th. We can assume that one of the competitors of an electric F-150 will be a Tesla Cybertruck. The latter also has a Luggage compartment in the front, which has a capacity of 135 liters.
