Ford recalls 115 thousand Bronco Sport

A problem with rear brakes in cars of model year 2021 and some cars in 2022 can lead to a decrease in their performance, as well as an increase in the braking distance of the vehicle.

Certain Ford Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs that have the same braking system have come under a US recall campaign as NHTSA determined they may not stop short enough in some situations. A total of 114,996 vehicles, mostly 2021 model year vehicles and a few 2022 vehicles, will be recalled from early January 2022. Ford said it has not heard of any accidents or injuries associated with this defect to date.

According to the edition, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the United States established the reason for the fact that the coefficient of friction of the rear brake caliper pads is lower than that specified in the specifications of the cars. It was found that it took almost 192 meters to stop the vehicle with brake force control turned off, compared to the federally controlled distance of 168 meters.

The 2021-2022 Ford Escape uses the same braking system as the Bronco Sport, so the NHTSA test applies to this vehicle as well. The reason why all Bronco Sport and Escape models of 2021 and 2022 do not respond to service is that this problem only applies to cars built without a vacuum sensor in the vacuum brake booster.
