Geely Automobile will launch a new brand Zeekr, under which expensive premium electric cars will be sold on the market, Reuters learned. The Chinese see the American Tesla as Zeekr’s main competitor.
Zeekr electric cars (read “Zikr”) will be built on the recently developed Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform, which is designed for models with one, two or three electric motors. The peculiarity of this architecture is open source, that is, it can be used not only by brands controlled by Geely (Volvo, smart, Lynk & Co and others), but also by third-party manufacturers.
According to the plans, Zeekr electric cars can be bought only in the brand’s showrooms. Thus, Geely will test a scheme that Tesla is already successfully using, where cars are sold directly by the automaker, without the intermediary of dealers.
Geely already has one purely electric vehicle sub-brand in its portfolio – Geometry, which was launched in 2019. The first model of the brand was the sedan A, followed by the Geometry C cross-hatchback.
