Under the hood of the premium Genesis sedan G70 will be a 2.5-liter powertrain from the Sonata N-Line.
The Korean automaker said that the new 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder turbo engine from the Sonata N-Line set in the updated Genesis sedan G70. The power plant will replace the current 2.0-liter turbo, which is available in the basic version.
It is expected that the new engine will be part of the facelift G70 that needs to happen in 2021 or 2022 model year. The new powertrain should provide a substantial increase in capacity for G70 four-cylinder engine as the 2.5 T develops 290 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque in the Sonata, improving performance by 38 HP and 50 lb-ft compared to the current a 2.0 T.
It should be noted that the modified powerplant is likely to end a six-speed manual transmission as the 2.5-litre engine from the Sonata is combined only with eight-speed automatic transmission with double clutch.
Genesis said that the sedan version with 2.0-liter engine had only about 4% of sales of the G70 in the United States, the company will refuse from this variant of the power plant. More information about the novelty should appear already in the following year.
