Thanks to the Chinese taxation, tied to the displacement of the engine, quite bizarre models are born. For example, a four-cylinder Mercedes G-class or a niche Mercedes CLS sedan with a 1.5-liter unit under the hood. Another similar car, albeit on a smaller scale, was the Mercedes GLE 450 crossover for the Chinese market. If earlier a car with the same index was equipped with a three-liter inline turbo-six, then a 2.5-liter unit began to be installed on five-doors of the 2021 model year.
In the Chinese market, the Mercedes GLE 450 with a supercharged 2.5 engine is already on sale, and the price after switching to a smaller engine dropped by 35,000 yuan ($ 5,400) to 799,800 yuan ($ 122,900).
Fuel consumption in the combined cycle for the Chinese version of the GLE 450 is declared at 8.7 l / 100 km. At the same time, the international version, according to the passport, consumes 8.5-9.1 liters.
New – a version of the M256 engine, which is installed on the GLE 450 for other markets. But for China, the working volume was cut from 2999 to 2499 cm3, which promises half the tax rate. At the same time, the gasoline engine retained the output of the three-liter version (367 hp and 500 Nm) and the 48-volt starter-generator (22 hp and 250 Nm). True, the power and thrust of the “six” are achieved in a less wide range – 5900-6100 and 2000-4000 rpm (instead of 5500-6100 and 1600-4500 rpm, respectively). This influenced the dynamics of the GLE 450 model: acceleration to a hundred now lasts 5.9 s versus 5.7 earlier. But the top speed is also electronically limited to 250 km / h.
