VW plans to release a higher performance version of the “hot hatchback” Golf R which will receive the index R+ and will be hybrid.
As you know, the Volkswagen Golf R of new generation will receive a two-liter “four” with a turbocharger with a capacity of about 330 horsepower, but it now appears that the R version might not be the fastest in the family. According to the publication WhichCar, Volkswagen plans to produce hybrid hatchback Golf R+, which will get propulsion from a petrol turbo and electric motor a total capacity of over 400 horsepower.
The final decision on the fate of the project still pending, but if he gets the green light from the leadership of the VAG, hatchback equipped with two-liter “four” from the Golf R, which will rotate the front wheels and electric motor on the rear axle and lithium-ion battery. Probably, this design will inevitably aggravate the car, but the electric drive should provide a noticeable improvement in dynamics. The conveyor Volkswagen Golf R+ will be able to get no earlier than 2023 and debuts, most likely, along with a restyled version of the Familia eighth generation.
