Great Wall Motor has announced an electric car with a design inspired by the classic Volkswagen Beetle. GWM has no relationship with Volkswagen, the Chinese decided to interpret the well-known image of the “Beetle” in their own way.
The car will be presented on April 19, 2021 at the Shanghai International Motor Show under the ORA brand – under which Great Wall produces only pure electric vehicles. So far, 3 darkened promo photos (teasers) are common – the silhouette, the back and the interior. The exterior profile is really similar to the “Beetle” – the characteristic sloping nose and back. However, the Great Wall does not have 2 doors, but 4. There will be many decorative chrome edging in the design of the body and interior.
Recall that the original Volkswagen Kafer (Beetle) was produced from 1946 to 2003. From 1997 to 2010 VW produced the subcompact New Beetle with a design inspired by the classic model. From 2011 to 2019, the Beetle, the second generation of the “new Beetle”, was produced. Since 2019, there are no such cars in the VW range.
