The German company has announced the debut of the Mercedes-AMG GT 73 liftback with an 800-horsepower hybrid unit.
Mercedes-AMG has posted on the Web the first photos of a prototype hybrid model GT 73. The novelty will be the most powerful production car of the German brand, with the exception of the small-run hypercar One, the production of which has not yet started.
The new Mercedes-AMG GT 73 will be the production version of the AMG GT Concept, which debuted in spring 2017. Based on the “V8 Biturbo E Performance” badge on the fender, the car will receive a hybrid powertrain based on a 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine, which will be paired with an electric motor powered by a lightweight battery pack.
According to preliminary information, the total output of the units will exceed 800 horsepower. The liftback will be able to pick up a speed of 100 km / h in less than 3 seconds, and its maximum range on electric traction will be about 50 km.
In the photos presented by the company, the GT 73 prototype is next to the Formula 1 car, as well as the One hypercar. That is, the manufacturer hints at strengthening cooperation between the developer of “civil” sports cars Mercedes-AMG and racing cars Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1. The debut of the GT 73 liftback should take place this year, and its production will begin in 2022. The main competitor of such a car will be the 690-horsepower version of the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.
