The German automaker has published pricing for its new Volkswagen Taos compact crossover. The novelty will go on sale in June this year.
The compact crossover market is booming these days. With such a large selection of all kinds of offerings, including from Volkswagen, the Taos crossover is on offer at a very competitive starting MSRP of $ 22,995. VW Taos is being marketed as a replacement for the base Golf hatchback in the United States.
Under the hood of all available trim levels – S, SE and SEL – is a 158-horsepower, 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder.
While fuel economy data for this engine remains unavailable, the closest comparison in Volkswagen’s lineup will be the turbocharged 1.4-liter Jetta engine, with a respectable fuel economy of 7.84 L / 100 km in city and 5.88 L / 100 km on the highway.
The Taos will come standard with front-wheel drive, but customers will have the option to opt for the 4Motion all-wheel drive system. While FWD (front-wheel drive) models will be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, AWD (all-wheel drive) vehicles will receive a seven-speed dual-clutch DSG gearbox.
Inside, Taos offers the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit as standard. Customers will also receive a Car-Net service with Wi-Fi capabilities in the car when they subscribe to a data plan. Audiophiles will be delighted to hear that the crossover can be complemented by an eight-speaker BeatsAudio audio system. For seamless integration between car and phone, the MIB3 infotainment system, available on the SE mid-range trim level, enables VW’s wireless app to connect compatible devices.
The compact crossover is due to arrive at US dealerships in June 2021.
