KIA has announced several updates to the 2021 Niro Hybrid and Niro Plug-in Hybrid. The changes are relatively limited, but they are focused on safety and technology as both models now come with a rear passenger warning system.
In addition to the new safety feature, the models are now equipped with an 8-inch infotainment system with support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Cars equipped with a smart key get a new remote start function. Navigated versions of the model will receive free map updates for ten years.
The Niro’s suite of driver assistance systems has been expanded to include intelligent cruise control based on steering with turn function. This slows the vehicle down a bit before turning on the road.
The 2021 Niro Hybrid starts at $ 24,690, up $ 100. It is equipped with a hybrid powertrain, which consists of a 1.6-liter engine, an electric motor and a 1.56 kWh lithium-ion battery. This setting allows the model to deliver a combined power of 139 hp. and 264 Nm.
The plug-in hybrid price also rises by $ 100 as it now starts at $ 29,590.
While the 1.6-liter engine is inherited from the hybrid, the plug-in hybrid has a more powerful electric motor and an 8.9 kWh lithium-ion battery. The combined power remains unchanged at 139 hp. and 264 Nm, but the plug-in hybrid can travel up to 42 km only on electricity.
