How safe is the Hyundai Santa Cruz?

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has tested the safety of Hyundai’s new frameless Santa Cruz pickup.

The IIHS test program includes: 64 km / h frontal impact with 25% overlap; frontal impact at 64 km / h with 40% overlap; side impact; bench tests of seats (imitation of a rear impact); roof roll-over test; test of automatic braking systems in front of cars.

Hyundai Santa Cruz received a high green rating in all passive safety tests. The collision avoidance system also works reliably – effectively avoiding accidents with other cars or pedestrians. However, IIHS experts had questions about the standard halogen headlights – they have insufficient brightness both when driving in a straight line and when entering corners. At the same time, there is no problem in the expensive SEL Premium and Limited trim levels, since they are equipped with LED headlights.

In general, the car was assigned a high safety rating Top Safety Pick, which is only one step below the highest Top Safety Pick +. Hyundai Santa Cruz has been produced since 2021, the car is equipped with 2.5-liter gasoline engines, power – 194 or 265 hp. Transmission – 8-speed “automatic” or preselective “robot”. Drive – front or full. So far, the model is only sold in the North American market.
