CarScoops published a series of spy photos of the large BMW X8 crossover, which were taken during prototype tests at the Nurburgring. Apparently, the images show a hybrid modification of the model.
Stickers on the front doors and rear bumper indicate that it is an electrified modification in the new spy photos, and an additional hatch on the front fender on the driver’s side indicates that a rechargeable hybrid is undergoing testing. Moreover, some believe that it is testing the top-end X8 M at the Nurburgring.
The body of the prototype is hidden under a camouflage film, but European journalists suggest that the design is already close to serial. They noticed the low-set head optics in the style of the 8 Series model – it was probably made two-tier, but in the prototype the upper block is completely hidden under the camouflage. You can also see the silhouette of a crossover with a flat roofline.
There is still no information about whether the X8 will have a third row of seats, or whether the crossover will be offered only in a standard five-seater (or four-seater, with two “captain” rear seats) performance.
As for the power plant, it is likely that the hybrid X8 M will be equipped with a 4.4 liter V8 engine and an electric motor, the total output of which will reach 750 horsepower. If these rumors prove to be true, the SUV claims to be the most powerful production car BMW ever made.
According to insider information, the BMW X8 will premiere in 2021, and the 750-horsepower X8 M hybrid will hit the market a year later.
