Hyundai Casper: travel bag for $11,400

Hyundai has prepared a special version of the 3.6-meter Casper subcompact crossover for the home market – it has been turned into an A + class van. Casper Van lost the second row of seats, but acquired a partition and a roomy trunk for 940 liters by the standards of a car of this size. The novelty has become the most compact van of this format in South Korea and costs 13.7 million won ($11,400 at the current exchange rate).

The van is based on the entry-level Smart package. Such a car is equipped with 15-inch wheels and front power windows (the rear windows are protected by a special mesh). There are two power plants to choose from: a 1.0-liter “aspirated” with a capacity of 76 horsepower or a 100-horsepower turbo engine of the same volume. Both engines work in tandem with a quad-speed automatic, and Casper all-wheel drive is not required.

The passenger Casper appeared on the South Korean market in September 2021 and in just 24 hours from the start of accepting orders, more than 20,000 people filled out applications – this is a record daily figure among all Hyundai fuel cars. High demand is explained by the price of the model: the passenger version costs from 13.85 to 18.7 million won, depending on the modification, and Casper is already well equipped in the “base”.

Standard includes seven airbags, a 4.2-inch infotainment screen, a dual-speaker audio system, and a tilt-adjustable steering wheel. And in more expensive trim levels, an eight-inch touch screen is provided.

The peculiarity of the Casper interior is that it does not have a central tunnel, so the cup holders were placed directly in the driver’s seat, and the backs of the front seats are foldable and have removable head restraints. The second row has two separate seats that can be pushed forward 16 centimeters and recline at an angle of 39 degrees.
