According to Autocar, the Indian auto giant Mahindra & Mahindra intends to release a competitor to the popular South Korean crossovers Hyundai Creta and KIA Seltos.
While the new items from Mahindra & Mahindra bear the internal name S301, it was originally developed on the Ford B772 chassis, but the American concern broke off relations with Mahindra in January this year, so the Indian company had to quickly transfer the already partially developed car to a different aggregate base.
The new crossover will enter the Indian market under the name Mahindra XUV500. It is noted that this designation has been used since 2011 for a mid-size frame SUV. At the same time, his days on the assembly line are already coming to an end, and the Indian company decided not to give up the promoted index. Instead of the Ford platform, Mahindra & Mahindra will use an extended platform from SsangYong Tivoli for its new product.
According to preliminary data, the new crossover will be equipped with petrol and diesel turbines with a working volume of 1.5 liters and Euro-6 class. The release of the new Mahindra XUV500 will start in 2023. At first, the car will only be available in the Indian market, but later it is planned to be sold to other countries.
