The Korean automaker spoke about the prospects for the Ioniq electric sub-brand.
The Ioniq 6 should debut in late 2022 or early 2023. The debut date of the model will be chosen based on whether the problem with the lack of semiconductors will be solved. In 2024, the automaker intends to release the Ioniq 7 crossover.
In an interview with Automotive News Europe, Hyundai representatives told how the electric sub-brand Ioniq will develop. Right now, the company is considering expanding the Ioniq to smaller vehicles on the E-GMP platform. The company believes that this architecture has advantages, and therefore more machines need to be built on it.
As for the models, the Ioniq 5 will be followed by the Ioniq 6 midsize sedan. Earlier it was reported that Hyundai has announced another electric model, which will enter the market under the Ioniq sub-brand. Hyundai’s new product is a large SUV, which is planned to be called the Ioniq 7. Sales of the car are expected to start 2 years after the Ioniq 6 sedan, in other words, in 2024.
