The North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year (NACTOY) competition jury selected the winners in three categories. The best passenger car was the seventh – generation Hyundai Elantra, the electric Mustang Mach-E crossover, and the Ford F – 150 pickup truck.
The jury members commented on their choice. For example, Hyundai was noted for the fact that, unlike other automakers, this brand not only did not abandon sedans, but also offers a wide range of modifications for them, and an example of this is the Elantra. Elanta reached the final along with the Genesis G80, and it managed to win.
Ford was praised for taking the risk of putting the Mustang logo on the crossover, and the risk was justified. In addition to the Mustang Mach-E, the Genesis GV80 and Land Rover Defender competed for the title of crossover of the year.
The victory of the F-150 pickup truck, the most popular model in the United States and the “pearl in the Ford crown”, according to the jury, was quite expected. “Ford has improved something that was already recognized,” said NACTOY jury member John voelker. – This model combines function, capability, comfort and style in the right way, with the added benefit of a first – in-class hybrid powertrain.” The F-150’s main competitors were the Jeep Gladiator Mojave and Ram 1500 TRX.
Last year, the best car in North America was named the Corvette Stingray C8, the KIA Telluride won among utility models, and the Jeep Gladiator scored the most points among trucks.
