Tesla Model Y owners began to massively complain about breakdowns – the front suspension arms, unable to withstand loads, deform and break. After examining the problem, Tesla came to the conclusion that components that did not meet the design requirements of the automaker were installed on the crossovers from the factory. The culprit was the supplier, Ningbo Tuopu.
In China, the revocable promotion will extend to 21,559 Tesla Model Y crossovers manufactured at Gigafabrika in Shanghai from February 4 to October 30, 2021. The manufacturer will, at its own expense, replace the “wrong” levers for electric vehicles, as well as check other suspension elements.
Chinese-assembled Tesla Model Y are sold not only in China, but also exported, in particular, to the United States. Therefore, it is not surprising that this defect was also found on crossovers in the American specification. Moreover, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall of 826 Model Ys at the end of November.
Given that China-made Tesla Model Ys are also sold in Europe, further expansion of the recall campaign can be expected.
By the way, at the beginning of November Tesla had already recalled about 2.8 thousand Model 3 sedans and Model Y crossovers in America due to suspension problems. Then the reason for the service action was the incorrect tightening torque of the transverse link bolts.
