Spy photos of a prototype of a new hybrid McLaren has revealed the design of the future representative of the range Sports Series. Apparently, the trademark supercar looks to be close to the model 720S, but now experienced powerplant is covered by a body from 570S.
In December last year the Executive Director of McLaren Mike Flewitt said that the company is working on a new hybrid power plant on the basis of the V6 engine and its premiere is scheduled for spring 2020. The first model built on the designed for the new units chassis will be all-wheel drive supercar with electric motor on the front axle and dynamics better than Senna.
Spies recently caught a prototype, according to Autocar, equipped with such a unit, but it drives only the rear wheels. The company has made every effort to reduce weight, so the hybrid is only 30-40 pounds heavier than the non-electrified counterparts. The graph on the dashboard shows how it will look serial coupe: it will remain the proportion of 720S, but completely change the front end.
The future hybrid will be included in the lineup of Sports Series, the most affordable in the company’s portfolio of English Woking. Now there is a coupe 540С, 570GT, 570S and 600LT, and two Roadster: 570S Spider and Spider 600LT. However, he won’t be the only electrified model. The McLaren already has hypercar Speedtail, equipped with power plant with a capacity of 1050 horsepower and is capable of a top speed of 403 miles per hour – a record for road cars of the brand.
