Audi has posted photos and videos, as well as key features of the next generation RS3 sports model. The novelty, which will traditionally be produced in hatchback and sedan bodies, will be officially presented this summer.
On camouflaged prototypes, the inscription “1-2-4-5-3” is visible, indicating the ignition order in the 2.5-liter 5-cylinder turbo engine. As in the case of its predecessor, the output of the upgraded engine will be 400 hp, but peak power will be available at lower rpm (in the range from 5600 to 7000 rpm).
The maximum torque of the motor, working together with a 7-speed “robot” with two clutches and an all-wheel drive system, will increase by 20 Nm – up to 500 Newton meters.
The new Audi RS3 will be able to accelerate from standstill to 100 km / h in 3.8 seconds, which is 0.3 seconds. faster than the previous generation model and by 0.1 sec. less than its closest competitor, the Mercedes-AMG A45 S. The top speed of the compact hatchback and sedan will be 290 km / h.
The Audi RS3 will also receive a new system for controlled skidding called RS Torque Splitter, which is responsible for distributing torque between the rear wheels. The engineers have abandoned the traditional differential in favor of two multi-plate clutches (one on each drive shaft) with individual control modules.
According to the developers, such a solution will reduce the drift rate of the front axle, improve stability and overall handling, and will also allow “to arrange drift on closed roads.” The driver will be able to independently adjust the control electronics settings due to the Audi Drive Select system with five preset operating modes – from economical Comfort / Efficiency to extreme RS Torque Rear, when the main part of the traction goes to the rear axle.
