The Porsche 718 Cayman has a problem.

While its mid-engined layout is better, it can never be faster than the 911.

This makes the task very difficult for Porsche, which wants to create an attractive technical package for the Cayman for customers, but it cannot be very good. However, things seem to be changing at Porsche.

The upcoming 718 Cayman GT4 RS is based on the already powerful Cayman GT4, which comes very close to challenging some of the more expensive 911s. The current Cayman GT4 is powered by a 4.0-liter 6-cylinder engine that produces 414 horsepower and 418 Nm of torque.

With a starting price of around $ 100,000, the Cayman GT4 costs exactly the same as the entry-level 911 Carrera and offers very similar performance.

The new 718 Cayman GT4 RS should outshine the performance of the Porsche 911. The mid-engine layout and compactness make it a better sports car than the Porsche 911.

The 718 Cayman GT4 RS could debut in a couple of months at the end of 2021. It will begin life as a limited run 2022 model to celebrate the end of the 718 generation Cayman 982.
