this is the Renault Megane RS trophy arm it has 296 brake horsepower from a 1.8 litre turbo it weighs 140 kilograms less than the trophy it’s the fastest ever front-wheel drive car around the Nurburgring and only 500 will ever be built of which just 32 are coming to the UK prices start at 51 thousand pounds or 63,000 pounds if you want carbon wheels one more 30 will be offered like this car here with the Nurburgring record pack which includes among other things ceramic brakes and costs 70 mm 140 pounds which is rather a lot for a hot hatch but this isn’t a hot hatch as we know it it’s probably got more in common with track focus super cars like the Porsche gt3 RS than it does the Focus ST so here’s what we’re gonna do we’re going to go through the bits that make that price not quite as scary as it first seems starting around here at the back where we find a carbon-fiber diffuser down here 30% more surface area on that then you get with the trophy twice the downforce and this is very cool look and Akrapovic or a crap of itch exhaust depending on which way you lean the pipes here a slashed and poked out of a hole cut into the diffuser so as not to scupper the arrow to help with using the pipes as decoration around the front yet more aero Madinah so you’ll notice this NACA duct which is cut into this freakishly light carbon-fibre bonnet but that doesn’t feed air into the engine now it feeds air down and underneath the car to help that diffuser work more efficiently down here they’ve removed these lower lights instead turning them into an extra intake to feed more cool air to the engine under their lithium ion battery because it’s just that little bit lighter and this is quite interesting now this is the badge from again that has adaptive cruise control this car doesn’t have adaptive cruise control because it would add weight but the edge is lighter than the normal one so that’s what the trophy yard gets and the lightness continues the glass is thinner everywhere except for the windscreen you can’t put the rear windows down and there’s no rear wiper but here’s where it gets really interesting because behind there are Brembo carbon ceramic brakes now you only get those on the front of the car but I can assure you it stops like you’ve driven into a brick wall and then there’s these utterly gorgeous carbon-fiber rims they save 2 kilograms a corner they cost 3 grand a piece careful of those curbs and here’s an interesting thing if you order the optional carbon fiber wheels they don’t come on the car you get red trophy wheels as standard in your carbon rims are waiting for you all wrapped up where the back seats should be as standard you get öhlins dampers adjustable through 20 clicks from softer than the trophy to firm as a race car but they also allow 16 millimeters of ride height adjustment front and rear the controversial four-wheel steering system has also been binned saving 40 kilograms just like that and two degrees of camber has been added to the front wheels inside here you can’t delete the infotainment and aircon like you used to because literally no previous trophy our customers were mad enough to do it you get the Tsar belt light weight seats as standard they save 16 kilograms per seat and I’m happy to report that they’re not nearly as torturous as that sounds these harnesses a part of the Nurburgring record pack you get a simpler center console down here that saves 2 kilograms you get the lower spec screen from the McGann range because it’s slightly lighter Alcantara on the wheel instead of leather because it’s lighter lighter lighter lighter you get the idea right you’ve got to love Reno’s commitment with this car a hot hatch the cost the same as a Porsche Cayman gt4 yeah pretty hard to justify that isn’t it but when there’s nothing else like it out there when you’re the only company that has the balls to pull something like this off well I reckon you can charge whatever the hell you like
