The new generation of the mid-size frame SUV Toyota Land Cruiser Prado should debut in August 2022. Codenamed J180 is based on the TNGA-F frame platform with a lower center of gravity and lighter weight, according to AutoHome.
Toyota is usually in no hurry to change generations of its popular models: the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 and the Tundra soplatform pickup truck lasted almost 14 years on the assembly line. But they have finally been updated, and now it is the turn of the third “icon” of the Japanese company’s line – Land Cruiser Prado.
According to previously published information, the debut of the Land Cruiser Prado was supposed to take place in mid-2023, but later the date was postponed to the next summer, 2022. But according to the Japanese Best Car data published in October, it will take a long time to wait for the fifth generation of the model – another 3 years. The journalists even cited the reasons for this, including the shortage of microchips and a large queue for the new Land Cruiser 300.
There is not a lot of information about the new product. It is known that its equipment will include LED headlights, a fully digital instrument panel and a modern JBL audio system with 12 speakers and a large touchscreen multimedia system. In addition, the Land Cruiser Prado will be lighter with more aluminum alloys.
The AutoHome portal also provides quite contradictory information: supposedly, a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline A25A-FKS (205 hp and 250 Nm) will appear on the Land Cruiser Prado of the J180 generation, which is installed, in particular, on Toyota Camry. Moreover, both he and the diesel engine will be aggregated with the Direct-Shift CVT, which is used on Toyota cars, including the same Camry and RAV4. How much this information corresponds to reality – time will tell.
Information about the date of the debut of the new Land Cruiser Prado is also not so unambiguous, since in October the Japanese edition of Best Car announced the postponement of the release immediately to 2024.
Recall that the J150 generation Land Cruiser Prado entered the market in 2009. Over the past 12 years, it has been modernized several times. Major updates were carried out in 2013 and 2017.
