The Japan Automobile Dealers Association (JADA) has released Japan sales results for April 2021. The leaders have remained the same: Toyota Yaris – among cars and Honda N-BOX – in the segment of kei cars.

In April 2020, in the Land of the Rising Sun, the impact of the coronavirus pandemic was already felt with might and main: sales of new cars were noticeably declining. Taking into account the effect of the low base, a sharp positive trend was recorded for many models this April.

Compared to April 2020, sales of passenger cars in total increased by 29.4%, to 349,895 units, key cars – by 42%, to 139,452 units.

This is what the top 10 passenger car sales look like (in brackets – dynamics relative to April 2020):

  • Toyota Yaris – 19,974 pcs. (197.4%);
  • Toyota Roomy – 12 161 pcs. (238.3%);
  • Toyota Corolla – 7976 pcs. (119.4%);
  • Toyota Raize – 7814 pcs. (140.9%);
  • Toyota Alphard – 7576 pcs. (132.0%);
  • Toyota Harrier – 7112 pcs. (464.5%);
  • Nissan Note – 5711 pcs. (150.8%);
  • Toyota Voxy – 559 pcs. (129.4%);
  • Honda Freed – 5426 pcs. (90%);
  • Suzuki Solio – 4966 pcs. (205.8%).

Sales of Toyota Harrier have grown the most: demand for a mid-size crossover has jumped almost fivefold. This is due to the fact that in June 2020 a new generation of this model appeared.

Among kei cars, no one demonstrates such an impressive dynamics, although sales of individual cars have doubled:

  • Honda N-BOX – 16 733 pcs. (119.2%);
  • Suzuki Spacia – 10 802 pcs. (168.1%);
  • Daihatsu Move – 9750 pcs. (141.8%);
