According to the publication CarAdvice, the Indian SUV Thar, targeted at the Australian market, became the cause of this dispute.

The Jeep brand is once again suing the Indian company Mahindra & Mahindra over the controversial appearance of the Thar SUV, which copies the Wrangler model. Earlier, the American manufacturer has already secured a ban on the sale in the United States of the Roxor car (a copy of the Wrangler CJ) from the same Indian company, and now has taken up the defense of its interests in Australia.

Let us remind you that the Indian brand Mahindra & Mahindra plans to introduce a new Thar SUV to the Australian market. The company has already started to certify the car in the country. However, Jeep brand lawyers considered the model to be very similar to the Wrangler SUV and accused the Mahindra brand of patent infringement. The conflict between the two companies is being considered in the Australian Federal Court.

The new Mahindra Thar SUV is slated to be available with a choice of two turbo engines, a 2.0 petrol 150 hp. or a 130-horsepower diesel engine with a working volume of 2.2 liters. A manual transmission or “automatic” Aisin is offered as a transmission, four-wheel drive with a rigidly connected front axle. In the home market, the Mahindra Thar model is popular, which is explained by its relatively low price: in India, an SUV can be purchased for 1.2 million rupees (this is about $ 16,300 at the current exchange rate).
