KIA has published a teaser video of a car mysteriously named Project X, in which the KIA Seltos crossover is guessed. Thus, the South Korean brand announced the premiere of an “off-road” modification called the Seltos X-Line with brutal touches in appearance and additional equipment, but untouched technical “stuffing”. KIA will show the model in serial form in the near future, after which it will be launched on the Indian market.
KIA first unveiled the Seltos X-Line back in 2019 in Los Angeles in two concepts: the X-Line Trail Attack and the X-Line Urban. They distinguished themselves with a lifted suspension, additional optics, reinforced bumpers and roof racks. In 2020, the X-Line concept reappeared at the New Delhi auto show, but in a single copy and in a version close to the series, still raised by 234 millimeters.
Probably, the “commercial” modification of the compact cross with the X-Line attachment will receive the same off-road body kit, bright body paint with darkened elements instead of silver chrome and additional decor in the cabin. It is not yet known whether the serial compact-cross will be “elevated”.
No changes are expected under the hood, but it is possible that the extreme Seltos will only get the most powerful engine in the range: in India, it is a 1.4-liter turbocharged unit with 140 horsepower. It is coupled with a six-speed manual transmission and a seven-speed “robot”.
KIA has not yet declassified the date of the Seltos X-Line premiere. Perhaps the debut will take place on August 22 – on this day, the model will celebrate two years since entering the Indian market. It is noteworthy that KIA published a teaser after the premiere of a new product from Mahindra: the day before, the brand entered a new segment with a richly equipped XUV700 crossover. In addition, the line expansion could help spur Seltos sales in India, which dropped below 7,000 units in July.
