After the recent debut of the new generation Sportage in two versions with a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and a 2.0 turbodiesel, the automaker KIA has finally introduced a third version – a hybrid crossover.
The hybrid version comes with a 1.6-liter T-GDI gasoline turbo engine with 180 hp. and 265Nm. The 6-speed “automatic” is additionally equipped with an electric motor, which has a return of 60 hp. and 264Nm. Peak power of the system is 230 hp, maximum torque is 350 Nm. The KIA Sportage Hybrid is only available with front-wheel drive.
Despite the electric motor, the car cannot move only on electric traction due to the low capacity of the battery, which produces only 1.49 kWh. However, such a refinement allowed to reduce the fuel consumption of the car – up to 6.0 liters per 100 km of run. It has an E-Ride system in the hybrid, which softens the shock of the suspension when driving over large bumps. It just works with a traction electric motor.
The interior of the hybrid version features updated graphics of the dashboard. Here, instead of a tachometer, the automaker added an energy exchange scale. The cost of such a crossover in South Korea starts at $ 27,000, while the basic version of the Sportage costs $ 22,000 here. A “charged” hybrid with more battery capacity, powerful electric motor and 265bhp peak output is expected to arrive soon.
Shortly before the start of sales in South Korea, the automaker showed images of cars of different configurations. What is striking: the basic version comes with analogue instruments and a 4.2-inch screen, monochrome display and conventional air conditioning.
The version with an average price tag has a two-zone climate control button panel, a media system with an 8-inch screen. In the most expensive configuration, the dashboard is presented as a single panel with curved glass with a diagonal of 12.3 inches.
The maximum grade Gravity allows customers to choose one of two colors of the leather interior. The car has a more massive front bumper, as well as 19-inch alloy wheels.
