KIA unveils revamped Cerato

The KIA Cerato is being sold under the name KIA K3 in South Korea. Both the updated sedan and the hatchback debuted there.

The exterior of the modernized KIA K3 has been changed: the radiator grille has become narrower and connected to the headlights, the design of the running lights has changed, and the turn signals, which were previously on the bumper, are now built into the headlights. In addition, a new logo has appeared, which was shown by the company earlier this year. At the same time, the rear end was changed only for the KIA K3 sedan: it now has a different bumper and redesigned taillights.

The salon of simple trim levels of the new KIA K3 has hardly changed: they still have only analog devices and the simplest audio system with a monochrome screen. But the expensive versions got new options: a media system with a 10.25-inch widescreen display and electronic devices on a screen of the same size.

Also, the new KIA K3 has an electric parking brake and a standard remote engine start system. And the most advanced audio system now bears the Krell logo. The functionality of the complex of electronic assistants has been expanded: for example, the automatic braking system now has the ability to recognize cyclists and functions when the car is reversing.

Power units of the Korean KIA K3 models remained the same. The base sedan is equipped with a naturally aspirated 1.6 engine from the Smartstream line (123 hp) and an IVT CVT. And the KIA K3 GT hatchback has a 1.6 T-GDI turbo engine (204 hp) with a 7-speed preselective “robot”, plus such a car has a multi-link rear suspension instead of a standard “beam”.

In South Korea, the upgraded KIA K3 models are already on sale. Versions of the model for other markets (Cerato and Forte) will go through an update later, but in appearance and interior, they are likely to have minimal differences from the presented KIA K3.
