The first experiment Hyundai battery electrocreaser can be considered successful: Kona Electric got a decent range and adequate price tag, which resulted in good sales figures and several international awards, including the title of best SUV in North America.
But the car batteries is in many ways still a fashion product, and here’s a little (less than 4.2 meters) Kona Electric nothing to boast of: it’s slow (7.6 seconds to hundreds), is strictly front-wheel drive and even a unique design to stand out, as looks almost no different from the petrol models, which are built. Besides reputation tarnished repeated cases of spontaneous combustion, which had to change batteries.
The crossovers and electric cars are now the most rapidly growing segments of the market and competition in them with any producer you need something really bright. Koreans are well aware of and already preparing just such a machine. Last fall it showed in concept form Hyundai 45, and this February we have seen in testing pre-production prototype. Recently the company announced that the model will hit the market early next year under the name of Ioniq 5, and now in our possession was another spy video of the test.
Test the crossover at the Nurburgring, which is not surprising, because the sports division of Hyundai N it has its own base. Judging from what we see in this video, Ioniq 5 will be much more lively and dynamic electric vehicle than Kona Electric. In this medium the novelty is expected to receive a full drive with electric motors on each axle, and will cost about 45 thousand dollars more expensive than the “Cons”, but comparable to one of the main rivals, the Tesla Model Y.
Everything else Ioniq 5 is still “pure” electric car: it’s built on the new platform E-GMP designed specifically for cars without DIC. The same architecture in the future will form the basis of Ioniq 6 sedan, SUV Ioniq 7 and another pair of models, which are not yet known.
