Lamborghini called the timing of the appearance of an electric hypercar

Details of the upcoming electrification of the Lamborghini lineup have emerged. For the first time, the Italian hypercar manufacturer announced a strategy for switching to hybrids and electric vehicles back this spring, but now the executive director of the brand Stefan Winkelmann in an interview with Yahoo Finance specified the timing of the appearance of the first all-electric car: it will happen by the end of the decade, in 2027 or 2028. He assured that high performance hypercars will remain the top priority for Lamborghini.

The development strategy of the Italian company is divided into several stages. First, serial hybrids will appear on the market – this will happen already in 2023. Electrification is expected to affect the successor to the Aventador or the Lamborghini Urus crossover.

Later, in 2024, all models of the brand will be hybrid. In total, the automaker intends to invest 1.5 billion euros in the electrification of cars and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 50 percent by 2025. After 2025, the brand will start developing the first all-electric car, which they promise to present within two to three years, that is, in 2027 or 2028.

Lamborghini already has one hybrid hypercar, Sian, in its arsenal: it is powered by a 785-horsepower naturally-aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine and an electric motor with 34 horsepower, and the total output of the installation is 819 horsepower. However, this model cannot be called a serial model – the coupe will be released in a limited edition of 63 copies.

Meanwhile, in 2021, Lamborghini is showing growth in sales: from January to October, 1981 cars were sold worldwide, which is 17.6 percent more than in the first ten months of 2020.
