KIA’s global lineup has expanded to include the highly fuel efficient K8 Hybrid, a five-meter sedan. The electrified version of the model has a fuel consumption of only 5.6 liters per 100 kilometers in mixed mode. Note that ordinary K8s with internal combustion engines are at least one and a half times more gluttonous.
It is worth noting that the KIA K8 Hybrid is the only modification of the new large sedan equipped with a turbo engine, since the other versions of the K8 have 2.5 and 3.5 liter naturally aspirated units.
The power plant of the K8 Hybrid consists of a 1.6-liter T-GDI turbo engine, a 6-speed automatic transmission with an integrated electric motor and a traction battery with a capacity of 1.49 kilowatt-hours. The peak power of the installation reaches 230 hp. and 350 Nm of torque. Compared to its predecessor KIA K7 Hybrid, the new sedan has become more efficient, while fuel consumption has decreased by almost 11%.
Since the KIA K8 Hybrid is equipped with a moderate-hybrid power plant, there are no additional charging hatches for the sedan, and the electrified modification can only be recognized by HEV nameplates, dashboard graphics and 17-inch wheels of the original design.
The priority market for the novelty is South Korea, but in the future, the KIA K8 Hybrid will certainly enter the US market.
