Lexus has published a series of photos of a future promising battery crossover: according to one version, the novelty may become a “green” successor to the RX L in the future. There are no technical details about the model, not even the name has been announced – for now it is simply called Lexus Electrified SUV. It is only known that the crossover will receive three rows of seats and a fully electric power plant.
Most likely, the pictures show a concept, as indicated by retractable door handles and cameras instead of exterior mirrors – attributes that almost any show car has, but which have not yet been widely used on production cars.
According to Lexus’ electrification strategy, by 2030 the brand will have an electric car in each segment. Also, by the end of the decade, the company will sell only electric cars in Europe, North America and China, and in another five years Lexus cars with traditional combustion engines will disappear from other markets.
For now, Lexus only sells one electric car, the UX 300e, but a second model, the RZ 450e electric crossover, is on its way. It is built on the e-TNGA platform and is considered a premium analogue of the Toyota bZ4X. Specifications of the RZ 450e have not yet been made public, but most likely it will be more powerful than the bZ4X, the top modification of which is equipped with a twin-engine 218-horsepower unit, as the 450e index hints at.
The full debut of the Lexus RZ 450e is expected during 2022, while the premiere of the Lexus Electrified SUV could take place as early as the end of this year or early next.
