Lots of glue and glitches: a new major recall of GM cars

General Motors announced a global recall affecting more than 900 thousand cars. Problems identified on the Cadillac CT6 sedans and pickups, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500. All machines belong to the 2019 and 2020 model years.

A month ago, GM had recalled pickup trucks Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra due to fire risk in an accident, and now a new problem, or rather two. The first service campaign is related to the fact that the wire connecting the generator with the positive terminal of the battery, poured a lot of glue. This glue possible disruptions in the supply of electricity that can cause a short circuit and fire. We know of at least one case of ignition of the car because of this defect. Mechanics have to check the electric circuit on all the machines from the risk group (350 371 of them have been implemented in the US), remove excess glue or if that is not possible, replace damaged components.

The second opinion concerns not only the pickups, but the sedan Cadillac CT6 (in the U.S. at risk are 463 995 cars). It turned out that they because of a failure in the control unit can suddenly fail the ABS and ESC systems, and in some cases on the combination meter does not illuminate the corresponding icon. Without these systems increases the risk of getting into an accident, especially on wet and slippery roads – not every American housewife, you know, is able to simulate ABS reluctor presses on the brake pedal. The defect will be resolved by updating the software.
