Startup Lucid Motors has announced the completion of construction of the first stage of its own plant in Arizona. The company is ready to start production of the electric sedan Air, the publication reports Electrek.co.
The capacity of the first stage of the plant is not called, initially it was about 30 thousand cars per year. Now the company assures that the total design capacity of the plant after commissioning of all lines will reach 400 thousand cars per year. This is comparable to the current capabilities of the Tesla factory in California.
In addition to the Air sedan, the company will also produce a co-platform luxury crossover. The company previously spoke about the desire to expand the model range, but plans for the construction of additional plants have not yet been reported.
Recall that Lucid Air was first shown back in 2016, but the startup has long experienced difficulties in finding funding. As a result, the construction of its own factory Lucid was able to start only at the end of last year.
In fact, the Arizona automobile plant became the first enterprise in the United States built by a startup for the production of electric cars. Tesla has bought its plant in California from GM and Toyota, and Rivian is converting the factory where Mitsubishi cars used to be produced.
