Company AF “Grand automotive” the official distributor of Maserati in Ukraine, a structural unit of UkrAVTO Corporation, informs you that Maserati celebrates its 105th anniversary, which coincides with the beginning of a new Era for the brand. Launching the modernization of the plant in Modena and planning a large-scale premiere in may 2020, the brand with the Trident pays homage to its roots and more than a century of history. Exactly 105 years ago, Alfieri Maserati (Alfieri Maserati), together with his brothers Ettore (Ettore) and Ernesto (Ernesto), opened the company Alfieri Maserati at number 1A via de’ Pepoli (via de Pepoli) in the heart of Bologna.
The company was founded in Bologna on 1 December 1914, but officially the operation of mechanical plant began on December 14.
The Maserati brothers developed a real passion for engineering and loved the speed, they love themselves sat behind the wheel of a racing car, despite the many technical and commercial challenges facing them. Another brother, Mario (Mario), have contributed, creating the famous Trident logo (inspired by the fountain of Neptune in Bologna), and another brother, Bindo (Bindo), joined the Officine Maserati in 1932, after the death of Alfieri.
The first car that carried on itself a logo with a Trident, was built in 1926. This was the Tipo 26 race car, which in the same year debuted in the Targa Florio race and took first place in the category up to 1.5 liters running Alfieri Maserati.
It was the first victory in a long string of successes, including two consecutive triumph in the race Indianapolis 500 (1939 and 1940), four consecutive victories in the Targa Florio (1937, 1938, 1939 and 1940), nine wins in Formula 1 and championship title in Formula 1 in 1957, won by Juan Manuel Fangio (Juan Manuel Fangio).
More recently, Maserati has returned to the path of victories with the MC12 car between 2005 and 2010, has won six international Championships of the FIA GT – the highest category of races for GT cars, built on the basis of serial models.
The Maserati remained in Bologna until 1939. In late September 1939, after the purchase of the brand family Orsi (Orsi), began moving the headquarters of Maserati from Bologna (from the area of the Pontevecchio, where the company moved by that time) to Modena, where based family enterprise Orsi to begin release of new models, invest in research and innovation and become the most famous in the world brand from Modena.
Production facility in Viale Ciro Menotti (street Ciro Menotti), where the plant is located today, was officially opened on 1 January 1940.
The year 1947 marked the end of one era and the beginning of a new one. The cooperation of the Maserati brothers with the company ended, and the brand released its first road car, the A6 1500.
In 1963, Maserati began another new phase in its history: the launch of the Quattroporte it has created a brand new, previously non-existent market segment luxury sedans and high performance.
After a short period in the composition of the Citroen (1967-1975 years), during which the French owners for the first time introduced in the production of modern industrial processes for the next period in possession of the De Tomaso (1976-1993), was at the factory in Modena the model was created, which was destined to become one of the most famous and successful in the history of the brand – Biturbo.
The purchase of the company by Fiat in 1993 was the beginning of a great new era in which Maserati came under control of Ferrari in 1997. These were years of massive change, when the light appeared model 3200 GT (1998) and, after it, Spyder (2001), with which the brand returned to the important U.S. market.
In 2005, Maserati was separated from Ferrari and came under the control of Fiat Group.
The year 2007 was very successful due to debut at the Detroit motor show Quattroporte (5th generation) with an automatic transmission that was an important step forward, particularly in markets such as the United States, Japan and the middle East. In the same year at the Geneva international motor show premiere of the GranTurismo, an iconic model in the brand’s history.
In 2009 saw the light of the GranCabrio, which was followed by other new products, significantly updated model range: the new Quattroporte (already 6-th generation, presented at the Detroit motor show 2013), Ghibli (Shanghai motor show 2013) and Levante, the first SUV of the brand (the Geneva international motor show, 2016).
After more than a century of history, the factory in Modena continues to produce extraordinary cars, which are sold in more than 70 markets and are of outstanding luxury, elegance, style, dynamics and quality. These features have made Maserati’s true Italian icon on the global level.
It is on the historic factory in Viale Ciro Menotti in 2020 it is planned to start production of the new Supersports car with plenty of innovative technological solutions. Already conducted a large-scale modernization of production lines, including for the release of the electric version of the model. Also, work began on the creation of an absolutely new for the plant’s paint shop.
